Native integrations with CMS providers have just gone on general release, enabling signage mode when displays are not in use in meetings and presentations.

Microsoft is making digital signage functionality available via Team Rooms on Windows at the platform level.

This will make it possible for displays within a Teams Rooms system to run in signage mode when not being used for meetings and presentations.

The tech giant has announced that integrations with Appspace and XOGO digital signage software are now on general release.

These trusted third-party options are built into the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal as digital signage options. However, customers not using these providers can also add custom web URLs as a signage source.

Microsoft's native integrations with Appspace and XOGO will support automatic registration of Teams Rooms devices into the CMS, streamlining device onboarding and management.

Appspace and XOGO will receive the names of rooms that are registered in their system so users can properly identify Teams Rooms devices within the CMS software.

Once rooms are registered, users can then update and manage signage content in rooms directly from the two CMS solutions.

Signage mode can be activated and deactivated based on a timer setting. Users can specify the number of minutes a display must be idle before signage mode comes on as well turn it off automatically a certain number of minutes before a meeting is scheduled to start.

Users can also make digital signage functionality conform to screen timeout settings on most devices to avoid screen burn and comply with sustainability mandates.

There is also the option to have signage mode ignore screen timeout settings. This could be useful for displays in rooms with glass walls or in open areas with high foot traffic.

AV Magazine comment This is a fascinating move by Microsoft with some major implications for end users who have vast estates of Teams Rooms systems. At present, only two CMS providers are supported for native integrations, and there are many more out there. The native integrations with these digital signage software solutions have been announced less than a year after the formal launch of Samsung VXT, which provides a cloud-based CMS direct from a screen manufacturer. The words "watch this space" come to mind.
